June 2nd was my 20th anniversary as Chaplain with the Polk County Jail Ministry to the 1000 incarcerated and also to the 650 Sheriff’s office staff. As a missionary I’m raising my own support and not being paid anything by the county. This gives us the freedom to share the gospel of Jesus Christ in these venues. Time has gone by so quickly, and with many changes. The biggest change was the construction of the new jail in 2008 which is a state of the art facility in the Midwest with 7 acres under one roof. It’s larger than most of the prisons in Iowa, and is located at the crossroads of I-35 and I-80 in NE Des Moines. What a privilege it is to work alongside the Polk County Sheriff, his deputies, and various other county employees. These are the unselfish men and women who serve and protect our homes, communities and county. These deputies are special agents of God (Romans 13:1-2) who bring order and peace in a a chaotic world. They need our prayers, support, and respect more than ever in these troubled times.
